Texas Mental Health Counseling Association Presents: The Ethics of Record Keeping for Tax Preparation as a Professional Counselor

Program Summary: Although the Code of Ethics doesn't specifically address best practices for business in private practice, counselors are bound to professional responsibility around record keeping and knowledge of the law. This presentation includes review of material on current tax information for professional counselors in private practice, which records to keep, and differences in 1099 and W-2 positions. Information from the ACA Code of Ethics, Texas LPC Rules, and IRS guidelines for small business will be discussed. Handouts will be provided.
