This in person event features several  CE programs:
9:00am-10:30am Telebehavioral Practice and Ethics- The world and the traditional workplace has changed a lot due to impact of COVID-19. Join Jorge Gama, LPC-S to review the now mainstream option of virtual counseling through video conferencing software. Identify the advantages and limitations of telebehavioral practice, set parameters in place to protect yourself, ensure your practice is HIPAA compliant, and be certain of your payment options.
Learning Objectives: 

1. Clinicians will understand the advantages and limitations of telebehavioral
2. Clinicians will identify opportunities to protect themselves through documentation as required and recommended by BHEC.
3. Clinicians accepting payment from telebehavioral clients will understand HIPAA compliance and review payment systems that are HIPAA compliant.

10:30am-12pm Integrative Mental Health Diagnosis-In this presentation on integrative mental health diagnosis, we delve into a comprehensive approach that synthesizes conventional psychometric assessments with complementary and alternative medicine perspectives. By acknowledging the complex interplay of biological, physiological, psychological, social, and other factors in mental health, we explore how integrating various diagnostic modalities such as imaging, genetic testing, psychometric assessments, and holistic evaluations can provide a more nuanced, individualized diagnostic process. Through case studies, we highlight the importance of unique biomedical data and an interdisciplinary approach to diagnosis for the purpose of optimizing treatment outcomes and fostering holistic wellness in mental health care.
Learning Objectives: 

1.Identify and describe clinical and ethical limitations of traditional mental health diagnostic practices.
2. Learn how clinical accuracy can be improved through gathering biomedical and genetic data with an emphasis on rule out and differential diagnosis.
3. Implement emerging best practices for mental health diagnosis with an emphasis on case consultation and appropriate referrals for multidisciplinary collaboration.

1:00-2:00pm Therapist Self-Care through Art Therapy: A Journal Intervention Approach-Join us for an interactive workshop exploring an art therapy intervention
focused on therapist self-care. Participants will discover how engaging in creative expression through magazine and multi-media collage creation can foster emotional well-being and enhance self-care practices for therapists.
Learning Objectives:

1. Identify at least three personalized strategies for implementing self-care principles in daily practice as a therapist
2. Actively engage in a self-care focused art-based protocol, effectively exploring a directive for personal well-being.
3. Identify and discuss at least two ethical considerations inherent in utilizing art as a tool for therapist self-care, providing examples or scenarios to demonstrate understanding.

2:00-4:00pm program From Egopathy to Personality Disorders: The Problem of School Shooters-
The problem of school shooters is both terrifying and growing in the US and in Texas. This program examines some of the underlying causes and introduces strategies for recognizing and addressing these risks by school and other mental health counselors. Further, it brings to light the problem that many school shooters do not come into contact with the mental health system, or worse, are not seen as having specific mental health problems.
Learning Objectives:

1. Be able to list several recent incidents and the response to them
2. List several of the many thinkers on this subject who have gone before us
3. Describe where and how violence fits into Transactional Analysis
4. List the principal "traits" which are expressed vis-a-vis the DSM5 and some of the writings and research on psychopathy and egopathy.
5. Describe the "Five Columns" of unhealthy traits and how they flow from "innocent to psychopathological and violent."
6. Be able to describe the proposed approach to improving the mental health of young people in Texas: A class in every high school in mental health and well-being.
